PROGRAM:   Historic Route 66 presented by D. Brent Walton and Paul Bardotz

What happens when two professional photographers take to the road for a month?

Come join us on February 21st and find out. In their presentation, Paul and Brent will talk about lessons learned from a month long drive on historic Route 66 and how they apply to photography. They will discuss the things they learned about their equipment, approaching strangers, and taking a business approach to a venture like this. (Brent and Paul secured sponsors and received comps along the way. They will talk about how that all works.)

During their trip they put on over 7500 miles on a rental car, took over 25,000 images, and met people whom they will never forget (and a few who will never forget them either… but that’s a story you’ll have to attend to hear.)

Attendees will all receive a special gift!

PROGRAM:

No speaker this month. – Group Discussion and Member Input

One thing on the agenda will be a discussion of the Blair/Rodabaugh Points. We started out with a point system that we knew would have to be reconfigured as we found how much work each job took and what would need to be added or deleted. Please take some time to look over the attached copy of our current point system and think about what you might like to see added or changed. Here are some jobs/events that might be added so that new volunteers can take them and have the chance to accrue points:
• Keeper of the Points for Blair/Rodabaugh
• Image Comp Judges
• Social Media
• Officers
* Council Meetings
* Image of the Year

Bring your ideas for Programs, Outings, etc. so we can plan a great 2018!

In Addition

As our Main Event, we will be creating Portraits for the staff at Abigail’s. Al Knataitis, 1st VP, will be bring lights and background for the Formal sessions and Brent Walton, Section Chair, will provide the lighting for the environmental sessions. Bring your cameras and each member will be given time to work with the staff.

Any member who would like a Portrait taken is also welcome to be photographed.

Sponsor Message

Here’s a sponsor message from Howard Burkholz:   I’m a sponsor of your Howard BurkholzProfessional Photographers of America chapter. Photography is my passion and insurance is my profession. Combine the two and I am uniquely qualified to help you get the best customized professional photographers insurance.
You may have already learned by sad experience that your homeowners insurance does not cover cameras, lenses, and other equipment when used for part-time or full-time economic gain. Nor will it cover your business liability exposure.
In addition to Replacement Cost New equipment coverage, Allstate Business Insurance also offers Professional Liability Coverage, General Liability Coverage, Data Extraction Coverage, and more – starting at $375 per year ($325 per year in some states). This is available for a HOME-BASED business AND retail studio’s too. As you know, most insurance companies don’t offer liability coverage if you are operating out of your home. And, liability coverage protects you anywhere in the world – not just at your business premises.
Why purchase General & Professional Liability? Consider this. What if your camera and tripod toppled against an expensive stained-glass window during a wedding, this insurance could cover damage or replacement costs for the claimant’s window and any damaged nearby furnishings. Or, Professional liability (also called Errors & Omissions) provides for the legal obligations arising out of professional errors, negligent acts or omissions during the course of practicing your profession.
If a proposal is not yet attached to this email please go to http://www.nationalphotographersinsurance.com and provide me with a little information so I can prepare a customized proposal. (Monthly pay options are available starting at $118.75 Down and $18.75 per month.)

President’s Message

FLPP Member Paul Bardotz and I took a month long journey down Route 66.  We drove to Chicago, hopped on Historic Route 66, and made our way to Santa Monica, California.  It was a real eye opener.

We ran in to several photographers along the way.  Some were professionals, but mostly amateurs.  But the most fun was running in to everyday folks and hearing their stories.

If you haven’t seen it, check out our website and blog about our journey.  You can find it at http://www.route66photographers.com.

Below:  Paul and Brent present Steve Kurtz of Bay Photo Labs a Route 66 License Plate with our “Thank You” written on it.  Bay Photo Labs was one of our many sponsors who helped make our trip special.
